I receive Spam from friends on Yahoo. Is their mailbox infected?

This week I’ve received 2 Spam messages from 2 different friends who use Yahoo Mail.
It looks like someone has been using their account to sent Spam to all contacts they have. Is it because their computer is infected by a Virus?

This is a  very common problem. Usually these hackers are able to gain access to email accounts (MSN/Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, yMail, etc.) without ever having to touch someone’s PC, so the odds of your friends’ computers being infected with a virus is low. It starts by receiving a suspicious email, there are all sorts of these. Usually curiosity causes people to click on the link within the email. Once you click on the link, you basically give the malware permission to access all your contacts, and then the spam begins. The best thing to do in this situation is to change your password AND security questions

That said, there IS a chance that their PCs (or at least one of them) are infected, so it is always good to have them checked over by a competent technician. If you think you may have been infected as well, have your PC looked at by a professional.

Adding Mobile Contacts in Outlook

In Outlook 2007, I want to add more than one mobile number, but it does not allow me to do this. What can I do?

Technician Response:

You have a few options here: You can use the “other” field for a secondary mobile number or some other field that you do not use, such as Business Fax. If you do not wish to do that, you would need to upgrade to Office/Outlook 2010. It has multiple fields which you can change and designate the type of contact number they are.

Sending Secure Emails

When you are sending sensitive information in an email, how can you make that one email secure? I have Windows 2010 and Vista.

The security of your e-mail depends on a few different things. If your Internet service provider allows e-mail secure socket layers (SSL), you can configure those setting in your Microsoft Office Outlook. For a truly secure e-mail, you would not only need to use an SSL on your end but also the recipient would need to have SSL on their incoming mail server as well. Unfortunately, however, securing a single e-mail is not an option – you either have all your e-mail secure, or none.

Email Settings

When I pull up my e-mail I am getting subject and date listed, but none of the senders’ information is listed in the column on the right. Please advise me how to get it to come up.

It all really depends on which email client you are using. If it is Microsoft Outlook then you can use the “View Menu” at the top, then select current view, and modify the way it displays things for you. If you’re not using Microsoft Outlook we will need to know which client you are using to assist you further.

Microsoft Outlook Tips (Part 4)

I have several different real estate transactions in my email folders. How do I move them into My Documents?

There are several ways to save messages from Outlook. The easiest way is to create a folder anywhere on your computer (in My Documents, on the Desktop, or wherever you would like). Then open the folder you created and make sure you can see that folder and the Outlook window at the same time. You should then be able to select (click) any or all emails from Outlook, then click and drag them into the open folder you created, then let go of the left mouse button. This should create .msg files in that folder, which you can double-click to open.

Another (more tedious) way is to select one message in Outlook, then go to File -> Save As… Then save the message as you would normally save any Word document or other file. This will create .htm files which will be opened in your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc), which means they can be opened on a computer that does not have Microsoft Outlook installed.

I am using Outlook for a database but need to keep my personal separate from my friends and family. What is the best way to go about that?

You can create separate contact groups under your “My Contacts” section.

You can find some helpful info on this subject by clicking the following link:
